In the 1930s, Breitling's Huit Aviation Department became famous thanks to the invention of precision cockpit watches dedicated to aeronautics, a booming sector. Twenty years later, Breitling presents another flight tool, this time wearable: the Ref. 765 AVI. This pioneering pilot's watch provided the technical basis for the current Super AVI, a collection inspired by the vigorous spirit of the first famous airplanes. The Super AVI Curtiss P-40 Warhawk pays homage to one of these legends. Designed as a fighter, the Curtiss P-40 Warhawk flew for the first time in 1938, immediately proving to be an example of agility. It is the ability of this monoplane to perform exceptional turns that gives it a certain advantage in flight, but not only that: its robust structure allowed it to tolerate adverse weather conditions and even many collisions in flight. The aggressive shark mouth drawn on the front of the Warhawk's fuselage confirms its reputation as a rebel of the skies. As a true pilot's watch designed to withstand the rigors of the cockpit of the time, the Super AVI Curtiss P-40 Warhawk features large, easily readable Arabic numerals on the dial and bezel. The robust case measures 46 mm, while the oversized crown is housed at 3 o'clock. The knurled bezel offers optimal grip while the stitched calfskin straps are a reference to the stitching on the leather of classic cockpits. Pilots and travelers will appreciate the ability to display a second time zone thanks to the 24-hour indicator on the inner bezel and the GMT hand with its red tip. The movement mechanism of the Super AVI is the COSC-certified Breitling B04 manufacture caliber, which offers approximately 70 hours of power reserve.
